the reality of running creative workshops

workshops are an exciting way to share skills, build community, and make an impact. but behind the scenes, they’re a real test of patience, resilience, and marketing strategy. selling tickets isn’t just about having a great idea - it’s about making sure the right people see it at the right time.

“if tickets don’t sell, does that mean the idea isn’t good?”

not at all. ticket sales don’t determine the value of a workshop - they reflect how well the marketing is working. if sales are slow, it’s not necessarily because the idea isn’t good; it just means the right audience hasn’t been reached yet.

“it’s a game of resilience.”

one slow ticket launch isn’t a sign to stop - it’s a signal to adjust.

marketing mindset shifts

instead of questioning whether the workshop is worth it, the focus should be on reaching the right people:

✔ going live on instagram to boost visibility

✔ gathering testimonials or video reviews from past attendees

✔ expanding beyond an existing network - making sure to reach an audience that values and invests in creative experiences

if an audience is full of people who love free content but won’t pay, it’s time to reach new circles.

“the last one was an instant success… so why isn’t this one?”

a classic creative struggle - when something works once, it’s easy to expect it to always work. but not every event sells out instantly. the key is looking at what worked before and allowing a bigger lead-up time.

✔ planning the next workshop further in advance

✔ refining long-term marketing strategies

✔ committing to the process for at least 6 months before deciding whether to pivot

business success ≠ self-worth

it’s easy to take slow sales personally, but business outcomes don’t define the value of a creative. external validation - whether in the form of ticket sales, social media engagement, or praise - shouldn’t dictate a sense of self. the best entrepreneurs separate their worth from their work so they can pivot, refine, and grow without spiraling into doubt.

success in business is about strategy, timing, and persistence; not proof of talent or identity.
